John Lennon & Friends - Ten For Two (The John Sinclair Freedom Rally) (1971) (PAL DVD-R disc)

CODE: KVL299

Price: $22.00

When radical poet and publisher John Sinclar was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison for possessing two marijuana cigarettes (hence the title) John Lennon and Yoko Ono threw a big benefit concert for him in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The John Sinclair Freedom Ralley drew many notables in the rock music and political world.  Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen contributed some raw, smoking performances and Bobby Seale, Jerry Rubin and Father Johns Groppi contributed some incendiary speeches (Groppi compares then-President Richard Nixon to Hitler!).  Even poet laureate and unrepentant chicken hawk Allen Ginsberg croaked out a little ditty.  Lennon along with Yoko (on bongo drums) takes tot he stage and signs a couple of songs (you may recognize this footage from the recent documentary The U.S. vs John Lennon).  Sinclar was freed three days after the concert and there was a happy ending of sorts.  Something that was not in the cards for Lennon.
